Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 4, 2026
OriKone (“we,” “us,” “the app”) is a private journal that helps parents capture and reflect on their child’s growth. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.
By using OriKone you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Who we are
OriKone is operated as a small independent project. You can reach us at orikoneapp@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
We only collect what’s needed to make the app work for you.
Account information
- A unique identifier from Sign in with Apple. If you choose to share your email when signing in, we receive it; otherwise we receive Apple’s relay address.
Subscription information
- If you subscribe to OriKone Premium, we receive your subscription status (active, in trial, cancelled, etc.) from Apple so we can grant you access to paid features. We do not receive your payment method or credit card details — Apple handles all payment processing.
Content you create
- Free-text “moments” you write about your child (descriptions, dates, optional tags)
- Photos you choose to attach to a moment
- Daily check-in selections (mood, speech trend, meltdown level)
- Optional reminder time you set for daily check-ins
Family member invitations (if you use this feature)
- If you invite a co-parent, partner, or family member to view or contribute to your child’s timeline, we store the email address you supply for the invitation, the invitation code, and (after they accept) a record linking that person’s account to your account so we can grant them access. Invitations expire after 7 days if not accepted.
Information about your child
- Whatever you choose to write or photograph about your child becomes part of the content above. You decide what to include. The app does not require any specific personal detail about your child.
Device information
- Standard technical information needed to deliver the service (e.g., crash diagnostics, device type, OS version) may be collected by our infrastructure providers in the normal course of operating the app.
Advertising identifier (only if you grant permission)
- On first launch, iOS asks whether OriKone may track your activity across other apps and websites (Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt). If you tap Allow, we collect your device’s Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) and share it with Meta (Facebook) so we can measure which of our ads led people to install OriKone. If you tap Don’t Allow, no IDFA is collected — we receive only aggregate, anonymous install counts from Apple’s privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork framework. You can change this anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
We do not collect: your contacts, your location, your browsing history, or any data not described above.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the app: store and display your moments, check-ins, and photos
- Authenticate you when you sign in
- Send you the local reminder you opted into (this happens on your device — it does not require us to send anything)
- Maintain the security and reliability of the service
- Respond to your support requests
We do not sell your information. We do not use your content to train AI models. The only data we share with an advertising partner is described in the section above — an advertising identifier (only if you grant tracking permission) and a small set of standard install/sign-up/purchase events used to measure ad effectiveness — never your moments, photos, child’s name, or other content.
4. How we store and protect your information
Your data is stored on cloud infrastructure providers located in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Each user’s data is logically isolated so that no other user can see your content, except for family members you explicitly invite via the family-invitation feature (see Section 6 below).
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your moments, check-ins, photos, account record, and any family-invitation records linking other accounts to yours. Any moments contributed by an invited family member will remain in your account’s data — they belong to your child’s timeline — but the contributor’s identity is removed if their own account no longer exists.
We follow standard industry practices to protect your data, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
5. Third parties
We use a small number of third-party providers to operate the service. We share only the information necessary for them to perform their function:
- Authentication providers (e.g., Sign in with Apple) to verify your identity
- Cloud hosting and storage providers to run the database, store your photos, and deliver the app
- Payment processing through Apple’s In-App Purchase system, if you subscribe to OriKone Premium. Apple handles your payment information directly — we do not see, store, or have access to your credit card or other payment details. We may use a third-party subscription management service to validate Apple’s purchase receipts and track your subscription status.
- Product analytics through PostHog to understand how features are used so we can improve the app. We share with PostHog: your account identifier (the same opaque ID we already use internally), and event metadata such as which buttons you tap, which features you use, your daily check-in selections (mood / speech / meltdown values), and aggregate counts (e.g., how many moments you’ve added). PostHog also derives an approximate country/region from your network connection. We do not share moment text, photos, your name, your child’s name, or any other content. PostHog stores this data on US-based infrastructure with raw IP addresses discarded after enrichment.
- Ad attribution through Meta (Facebook). To measure which of our ads led people to install OriKone, we use Meta’s mobile SDK to send a small set of standard events: when you install the app, when you successfully sign up, when you add your first moment, and when you start a subscription. If you granted iOS tracking permission, we also share your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA). If you did not, no identifier is shared — Apple’s SKAdNetwork framework returns only aggregate install counts. We do not share moment text, photos, your name, your child’s name, daily check-ins, or any other content with Meta. You can revoke tracking anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- AI text generation through Anthropic (Claude). To generate short pieces of text in the app, we send moment text and your child’s first name to Anthropic’s API. We do not send photos. Per Anthropic’s API terms, inputs sent through their API are not used to train Anthropic’s AI models.
- Email delivery through Resend for sending family-member invitations. When you invite someone, we send the invitation email (containing your name, the recipient’s first name if you supplied one, the invite code, and a description of which child the invitation covers) via Resend. Resend acts as a transactional email provider and does not use this content for any other purpose.
We do not allow these providers to use your data for their own purposes.
6. Family member invitations
OriKone Premium subscribers can invite a co-parent, partner, or other trusted family member to view or contribute to their child’s timeline. This is the only feature that gives another person access to content you have written about your child.
What happens when you send an invitation
- You enter the family member’s email address and choose a role: Can add moments (they can read everything and add their own moments) or View only (they can read everything but cannot add anything).
- We generate an 8-character invitation code and email it to the address you provided. The email lists which child or children the invitation covers.
- The code expires after 7 days if not accepted.
- The invitation covers every child on your account at the time you send it. Children you add later are not automatically shared — you would re-invite to extend access.
What happens when a family member accepts
- They sign in with their own Apple ID and enter the code. Once accepted, they can view every moment, photo, milestone, and daily check-in you have recorded about the children the invitation covers, both past and future, for as long as the invitation is active.
- We record their account identifier, the role you assigned, and the date they accepted.
Your control
- You can see your active family members in the app at any time (Account → Family).
- You can remove a family member at any time. Removal is immediate — they lose access on their next refresh.
- Removing a family member does not remove any moments they contributed. Those moments stay on your child’s timeline because they are part of your child’s record.
- If the family member adds moments, those moments are labeled “Added by [their name]” in the app so you can see who recorded what. This label is not included in the printed keepsake PDF (the book is about your child, not the metadata).
- An invited family member cannot add their own children to your account, cannot invite other people, and cannot transfer ownership. They have only the role you assigned.
- If your Premium subscription lapses, family members lose access.
Privacy obligation
- By inviting another person, you confirm that you have the authority to share your child’s information with them and that they have agreed to receive it. Please only invite people you trust with your child’s information.
7. Children’s data
OriKone is for adults. You must be 13 years of age or older to use OriKone. The app is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.
The app is, however, designed to help parents record information about their children. If you choose to write about or photograph your child, that content is treated with the same protections as any other content you create — encrypted, scoped to your account only, never sold or shared, and deletable on request.
You are in control. You decide what to record, what to keep, and what to delete.
8. Your rights
You can:
- Access your data: it’s all visible to you in the app
- Correct your data: edit any moment, check-in, or photo at any time
- Delete individual content: tap the moment or check-in and remove it
- Delete your entire account: in the app, go to the menu and choose “Delete account.” This removes all of your content from our systems
- Export your data: use the “Export” feature to generate a PDF of your timeline
- Contact us with any questions or requests at orikoneapp@gmail.com. We respond to verifiable requests within 30 days.
California residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) give you additional rights, including the right to know, delete, correct, and obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise any of these rights, email us at orikoneapp@gmail.com.
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
9. International users
OriKone is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and stored in the United States.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent change. If we make a material change, we’ll do our best to notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
